White or yellow shea butter: which one to use?

Shea butter, a cosmetic product used for skin and sometimes for hair, is made from the fatty extract of the shea tree nuts. Since it is loaded with fatty acids and vitamins A, E, and F, it is an ideal skin softener. To amaze you, one of the best properties of the shea butter is that, it is therapeutic in nature. It has healing properties, is anti-ageing and a natural moisturizer, and can reduce inflammation significantly. Also, if you have redness on the face, the application of shea butter on the affected area can reduce your problem considerably.

Shea butter cream is easily available at big cosmetic stores and pharmacy. It can also be purchased online. The shea butter is available in two types – white shea butter and yellow shea butter. The people always wonder which one should be bought. Here is the answer for you.

Yellow shea butter is the raw form of the shea butter. It has a strong odor and can have impurities since the butter is not refined. Raw Shea Butter is never filtered and is always left in its natural form. It is mostly in the color of yellow or sometimes green. It is not melted and it does not come in molds. This kind of shea butter is normally available in the paste form in a small jar. In preparing yellow shea butter, no chemicals, no bleaching agents, and no additives are used. Though some raw or yellow shea butter makers use chemicals. You must check the same before buying it.

A white shea butter is filtered and it can be refined or unrefined. Refined white shea butter is a great moisturizer but due to refining, it loses its essential vitamins. Though some companies make an effort to have a light filter system that does not reduce the vitamin content of the shea butter. White shea butter can be melted and used in molds. White shea butter is available in bars.

Unrefined shea butter is available in different grades. Grade A is the best of all. Only a handful of companies specify the grade of their shea butter. Sometimes shea butter is treated too which leads to the change in its color, odor, and texture.

Yellow shea butter or the raw form of shea butter definitely has better nutrients as compared to the refined or white shea butter, this is why yellow shea butter is the preferred choice of the people. Yellow shea butter has amazing healing properties which are intact. It also has all the nutrients like vitamins intact because it is not filtered or refined. Since no preservatives, chemicals, and additives are added, it also does not cause any chemical reaction or allergy on the skin.
